A SWARM of bees has been rehomed by a Rubery beekeeper after they were found settled in the grounds of a nearby school.
Jas, the beekeeper at Rubery Honey apiary, began receiving messages about the swarm of bees who had settled around a fence at Holywell Primary School on the evening of Wednesday June, 7.
The beekeeper arrived at the school to safely transfer the bees using a nuc – a hive where a small colony of bees can reside – before returning them to her bee apiary on the Waseley Hills.
The colony will now have a few days to settle before Jas will check on them and make sure they have a queen.
Jas said: “I’m very grateful to those that messaged me about the bees, helped me to gain access to the swarm after hours, and especially to the caretaker who stayed so late to ensure that I could “collect as many of the bees as possible.
“Another swarm safely rehomed.”
