A GROUP of Year three students from Beaconside Primary School took on an impressive challenge, walking three miles across the Lickey and Waseley Hills to raise money for Children in Need.
With the support of parents, teachers, and the wider community, the young hikers raised over £1,000 for the charity.
The children, joined by students from Rigby Hall School, set off from the foot of the Lickey Hills on Sunday October 6.
The halfway point at the Lickey Hills Beacon – there, a well-deserved treat awaited them – an array of homemade cakes baked by the children and their parents.
At the end of the walk, the students were greeted with a warm welcome and a bowl of hot soup, prepared by Sarah Lewis, a parent who organised the event.
Sarah said: “I couldn’t be more proud of all the kids.
“This year they have so far managed £1,000 and still rising.
“This is our third year, and each year the number of participants keeps growing.
“Thank you to all those who attended and everyone that made it another memorable day.”
Each child was awarded a medal, certificate, and a special homemade bracelet to commemorate their efforts and dedication.
The money raised will go towards supporting Children in Need, an organisation that provides grants to projects across the UK helping disadvantaged children and young people.
