GROUPS of stroke survivors were given a trip along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal on Wednesday.

The Bromsgrove Lions Club teamed up with Anglo Welsh Waterways Holidays for the two-hour trip on the ‘Emma’ barge from Tardebigge to Alvechurch and back. Both groups of survivors, their families and their carers also enjoyed a buffet lunch, courtesy of the Lions.

Carol Brogan, from Bromsgrove Lions, thanked Anglo Welsh for the opportunity and added: “It was a fantastic opportunity for them to step away from the stresses of everyday life and relax, watching the world go by on the peaceful Worcester and Birmingham Canal, whilst enjoying tremendous camaraderie.

“A stroke can have a huge impact on someone’s life, and this group really demonstrates how well they are able to combat the effects through mutual support.

“We are so pleased they could share this great experience together.”

Emma Lovell, Anglo Welsh reservations manager, added: “Research shows we feel happier and more relaxed by canals and rivers, and the slow pace of travel on a canal boat gives people the chance to unwind and connect with nature while cruising gently through the countryside.”

She added they were delighted to be able to offer Emma to the Lions.
