STORM GORETTI - Snow brings chaos to roads and buses in Rubery and south Birmingham

SNOW brought to Rubery, Rednal and south Birmingham by Storm Goretti has brought chaos on the roads, including local bus services.

Routes in several areas are proving treacherous and drivers are being warned to only travel if it is absolutely necessary.

According to Traffic Bromsgrove, Greenhill in Blackwell is blocked by a fallen branch and snow and there are stranded vehicles near to The Barnt Green Inn and Cofton Hackett.

In Northfield, there are reports of stranded vehicles on several roads, including Bristol Road South, Hanging Lane, Tessall Lane, Frankley Beeches Road, Shenley Lane and Turves Green.

There are also issues in other areas, including Frankley, Rednal, Longbridge and Cofton Hackett.




Bus terminations

National Express West Midlands has terminated or cut short some of its services.

27 – Solihull to Rubery, Great Park Buses are diverted via Frankley Beeches Road and terminating at Northfield.


45 – Birmingham to Longbridge Buses are terminating at the Green

47 – Birmingham to Longbridge Buses are terminating at Kings Norton station

49 – Solihull to Rubery, Great Park Hillmeads Road is not being used, buses are diverted via Parsons Hill and Wharf Road, Shirley station is not passable, Rubery is not being served, buses are terminating at the stop before Kings Norton Green, buses are terminating at Maypole.

61 – Birmingham to Frankley – Terminating Frankley Beeches Road at Egghill Lane.

Trains

Services between Bromsgrove and Birmingham have been running this evening but the last service to Birmingham will be at 10.24pm.

West Midlands Railway has cancelled the 10.31pm and 11.03pm to Four Oaks, via Birmingham New Street, due to adverse weather conditions.

Weather Forecast

According to the Met Office, the heavy snow is expected to continue in Rubery and south Birmingham until around 3am. It is then forecast to turn to sleet meaning the rush hour tomorrow (Friday) is predicted to be treacherous.

In Bromsgrove, snow is forecast to fall until 1am before that too turns to sleet.
