Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club gets new life-saving defib thanks to Bruce

BOSSES at Bromsgrove’s Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club say they are ‘extremely thankful’ for the support of a generous community member who has donated £700 towards the cost of a new defibrillator.

One of the life-saving devices was installed back in 2019 after a donation from the Redditch Westerners Association which uses the club monthly for Country and Western nights.

The defib was bought in consultation with the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation, which subsequently visited the club to provide training on how to use the device.

Sadly, in August 2021 the defibrillator was stolen from the cabinet at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, on Westonhall Road.

Upon hearing of the theft, Bromsgrove resident Bruce Hims contacted the club’s manager Mark Goddard and kindly offered to donate cash towards replacing the equipment.

Bruce had fund-raised £3,500 during ‘Sober October’ three years ago and purchased three defibrillators for locations in Aston Fields.

There was £700 left over and – as it had been sitting in a bank account – he gave the money to the club, which funded the additional £200 required to replace the device.

The new defibrillator is now in place and Mark has consulted with West Mercia Police to implement increased security measures to help prevent future theft.

He said: “The Stoke Prior community is very grateful for the donation from Bruce.

“We hope the defibrillator never has to be used but should an emergency arise, it is available.”
