A BROMSGROVE couple who have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary have offered advice to newlyweds to help ensure they have a lifetime of marital bliss.

Martyn, who celebrated with Gloria on Saturday, said couples should ‘never go to bed on an argument’ and stressed the importance of unwaveringly looking after each other and always sharing experiences and feelings.

Martyn gave a speech at an event held at Bromsgrove care home, Burcot Grange and Lodge, to mark the 60th milestone.

The home, part of the Berkley Care Group, invited Martyn and Gloria’s family and friends to celebrate their special occasion at the property’s luxury facilities.

The couple first met in 1959 at the Laura Dixson’s dance hall in Birmingham when Martyn and Gloria were 19 and 18 respectively. The hall was a popular social hub in the 1950s.

Martyn proposed to Gloria in her family home in 1961. They exchanged vows shortly before Gloria turned 21 and were joined by their families at The Hollybush in Quinton.

Their wedding day was attended by around 120 loved ones and is a treasured memory for Martyn and Gloria.

Following the wedding, the newlyweds embarked on a romantic honeymoon getaway to Jersey. However, the marriage initially got off to a rocky start following an unforeseen incident at the seaside, resulting in a hospital visit for Martyn.

Vicky Osborne, Burcot Grange and Lodge’s general manager, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Gloria and Martyn, at Burcot Grange and Lodge.

“It was lovely to welcome their family and friends to join us in celebrating this incredible milestone within our luxurious care home facilities.

“Our team at Burcot Grange is dedicated to providing exceptional care and creating meaningful experiences for our residents.”

She added the celebration was testament to the quality of care provided to their dementia residents.

“It was wonderful to witness their journey and be a part of their special day, surrounded by their loved ones.”
