A LARGE-scale food-packing event was held at South Bromsgrove High School last Thursday.
A total of 65 students, staff volunteers and Bromsgrove Rotary Club members joined forces for the drive to support international charity Feed the Hungry.
The scheme was co-ordinated by the school’s charity group, an Interact Club sponsored by Bromsgrove Rotary, as part of Feed the Hungry’s nationwide Million Meals Miracle project.
The cost of the event was generously supported by Bromsgrove Rotary Club, enabling full student participation.
Over the course of the day, volunteers worked collaboratively to pack an impressive 5,000 meals for school children in Zimbabwe.
These nutritious meals help ensure young people can attend school regularly, free from the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from, supporting both their health and their learning.
Representatives from Feed the Hungry, including events co-ordinator Olivia Jack, attended to oversee the event and support the students’ efforts.
Several members of Bromsgrove Rotary Club also took part, reinforcing the strong and long-standing partnership between the school and the Rotary community.
Holly Seymour, deputy head of Year 10, praised the students’ enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment across all three sessions.
And headteacher Chris Smith expressed his pride in the students’ achievements.
He said: “The students worked together as a team and I am very proud of what they have achieved.
“They really enjoyed themselves and definitely exemplified the Rotary Club motto of ‘Service above self’.
“Students are already asking if they can take part next year.”
The food-packing event forms part of the wider work by South Bromsgrove High’s Charity Group, a student-led organisation which supports a range of local and global causes each year.
Other good causes
Alongside Feed the Hungry, the group is currently supporting the Harry Bennett Foundation and the Tom Jones Memorial Fund.
South Bromsgrove High extends its sincere thanks to Bromsgrove Rotary Club for its generous financial support and ongoing partnership and to Feed the Hungry for enabling students to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of children across the world.
