YOUNGSTERS from South Bromsgrove High School rolled up their sleeves and packed over 5,000 rice-based meals for children in Zimbabwe.

Students from South Bromsgrove High School packed over 5,000 rice-based meals that will be shipped to children in Zimbabwe, after teaming up with Feed The Hungry UK and Bromsgrove Rotary Club.

The event brought together 65 students, staff volunteers and members of Bromsgrove Rotary Club to support Feed the Hungry’s Million Meal Miracle campaign.

These nutritious meals help ensure that young people can attend school regularly, free from the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from.

Holly Seymour, Deputy Head of Year 10 at South Bromsgrove, praised the students’ enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment across all three sessions.

Chris Smith, Rotarian and Headteacher of South Bromsgrove High, said: “The students worked together as a team and I am very proud of what they have achieved. They really enjoyed themselves and definitely exemplified the Rotary Club motto of ‘Service above self’.

“Students are already asking if they can take part next year.”

The food-packing event forms part of the wider work of South Bromsgrove High’s Charity Group, a student-led organisation that supports a range of local and global causes each year.

Alongside Feed the Hungry, the group is currently supporting the Harry Bennett Foundation and the Tom Jones Memorial Fund.

Feed The Hungry UK is an international humanitarian organisation committed to fighting hunger due to poverty, war, famine and natural disasters, which has established feeding programmes in 28 different countries worldwide.

The Million Meal Miracle campaign aims to engage 200 schools in meal packing events with a target of packing one million meals in the next two years for school children in Zimbabwe and Somaliland.

Olivia Jack, of Feed The Hungry, said: “The energy and teamwork were fantastic; we loved it just as much as the students.

“Events like this are so powerful, bringing students together to make a real difference while giving young people a meaningful, educational experience of helping others internationally.”
