Severn Trent apologise over long-term Bromsgrove sewage issue

Bromsgrove Editorial 28th Sep, 2023   0

SEVERN Trent has apologised to residents in Bromsgrove over a collapsed sewer pipe which has been causing an horrendous stink in an area of the district for more than two years.

Those living and using Albert Road and Rock Hill say the sewage flows down the gutter of the two roads, posing health and hygiene risks as well as a horrible stench.

The Standard was contacted by Neil Holmes who lives in the area.

He said: “The sewage comes up through one drain in Albert Road, flows down there into Rock Hill and continues until it disappears into the next drain.

“The roads are used as a route to several schools and other places and whether you are walking along on the pavement or waiting at the bus stop, the smell is intolerable.”

“Severn Trent has been contacted on numerous occasions and has visited the area several times, including one last month, but still the issue has not been resolved.”

Mr Holmes also praised Labour councillor Harrison Rone-Clarke who has also been campaigning to get something done on behalf of the residents.

Coun Rone-Clarke said: “Local residents and I have been raising the alarm with Severn Trent since last year.

“And while we are reassured by this step, the only way to restore trust is to get this matter resolved once and for all.’”

A Severn Trent spokesperson told the Standard: “We’re really sorry to customers in Albert Road and Rock Hill area of Bromsgrove for the delays in starting essential repairs to a partially collapsed sewer pipe.

“After visiting the area numerous times and attempting to begin repairs, work has not been able to go ahead due to access issues due to parked cars.

“While we’ve informed residents to allow access previously, we will be rescheduling the work again and will make sure residents are aware again so the road can be clear.

“Once again, we’re sorry for the delays and any ongoing issues and it will be a priority to get the essential repairs made as quickly as possible.”
