SEVEN fire crews battled a massive barn fire which broke out at a farm in Frankley in the early hours of this morning.
Five crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service – two from Wyre Forest, two from Redditch and one from Bromsgrove Fire Stations – attended, along with a water carrier from Evesham and a West Midlands Fire Service crew from Northfield.
The flames billowed up into the early hours of the morning sky from the site in Egghill Lane and the smoke could be seen for miles, prompting numerous 999 calls around 2.30am.
Hay barn was at the centre of blaze
The barn, which was around 10m by 30m, stored hay. Firefighters sectioned off parts of the barn and battled each blaze using water jets.
West Mercia Police closed off the surrounding roads until the incident was scaled back. Crews from Worcester and Droitwich Fire Stations then attended. They remained at the scene, checking for hotspots to ensure it did not reignite.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called to a fire on Egghill Farm, Frankley at around 2.45am this morning.
“The road closure on Egghill Lane was lifted this afternoon.
“No one was injured. Enquiries are on-going.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101.
