CLASSICAL music fans will be in for a treat when award-winning chamber music ensemble Sacconi Quartet performs at Bromsgrove’s Artrix next Friday (October 7).
Ben Hancox and Hannah Dawson (violin), Robin Ashwell (viola) and Cara Berridge (cello) will be joined by clarinetist Robert Plane for the latest event to have been organised by Bromsgrove Concerts.
The programme includes three very different works – Mozart’s String Quartet in D K499 ‘Hofmeister’, York Bowen’s Phantasy Quintet Op 93 (for Bass Clarinet and String Quartet) and Glazunov’s ‘Reverie Orientale’ Op 14 No 2 (for Clarinet Quintet). They will then conclude with Weber’s exuberantly virtuoso Quintet from 1815.
The Quartet has just released its new album of works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.
Presented together on CD for the first time, Beethoven’s monumental opus 132 quartet and Mendelssohn’s dramatic response to it – his opus 13 quartet – are heard side by side.
The Sacconi Quartet played twice for the Bromsgrove Concerts in 2007 and Robert Plane, principal clarinet of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, visited with the Gould Piano Trio in February 2012.
The concert next Friday starts at 8pm and tickets are £19, £5 concessions (registered, disabled, unemployed, students), while carers and young people from eight to 25 go free. Under 16s must be accompanied. Those tickets will be available on the night of the concert.
