Rubery traders urged to show their love for the village in the run up to Valentine's Day

RUBERY traders can show their love for the village by displaying a decorated red heart in their windows in the run up to Valentine’s Day, writes Gabija Alseikaite.

The Love Rubery ‘Have a Heart’ campaign was launched last year by Rubery Village Association chair Ian Robinson.

This year’s drive has taken on a more personal note after Ian suffered illness and benefited from New Cross Hospital’s Heart and Lung Centre.

For a voluntary £5 donation traders receive a heart which they then decorate or get a local school or community group to do it.

The hearts are available from Polly Put the Kettle On or by calling Susan on 07980 031693.

The best-dressed heart will win a free afternoon tea at the cafe. There will also be a prize for the person who photographs the most hearts and uploads them to Facebook/Twitter using #LoveRubery.

People can also write what they love about the village on small paper hearts from St Chad’s Church which will be hung on a #LoveRubery Tree. Email [email protected] for more information.
