Rubery shopkeepers get creative for best Easter-themed window contest

Bromsgrove Editorial 31st Mar, 2024   0

THERE were some eggs-cellent entries when Rubery held its Easter-themed shop window display competition.

Around 20 local shops participated in the contest which brought a wave of creativity to New Road, with each shop competing to showcase the most imaginative Easter-themed decorations.

From vibrant springtime flowers to whimsical Easter bunnies and painted old tyres outside Amy’s Florist, the shop windows became a canvas for artistic expression.

AgeUK won the competition with two windows decorated with Easter themes.

Among those on the judging panel we’re Coun Esther Gray, Bromsgrove Standard reporter Holly Clement and Rubery Festival organiser Tony Maslen.

Coun Gray said: “This competition has brought the business community and residents together, they have been made to feel part of the  village.”

The winner will receive its certificate and prize at a later date.

Tony organised the event, as well as the Good Friday Fundraiser at The British Legion on the High Street.

He said: “This event is part of Love Rubery Week, and it aims to get the community together and also get the village back on the map, so more people come and visit us and our village.”

The competition not only served as a platform for local businesses to showcase their creativity but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and community spirit among residents and shop owners.

Children and parents gathered on the High Street for the Easter egg hunt, whilst also looking at the decorated windows and choosing their favorites.

Elsie, aged six said her favorite display was the PDSA’s  because of the ‘Love Rubery’ sign and the spring flowers.
