RUBERY’S Empire Cinema has been pulled from the jaws of closure after an Irish cinema company has acquired the at risk premises.
Omniplex Cinema Group has purchased five Empire locations including Rubery, Great Park which is due to reopen on Wednesday, December 6.
The Irish firm has invested more than £22 million to reignite cinema locations in Birmingham, Ipswich, Sutton, Clydebank, and High Wycombe after Empire Cinemas announced its collapse into administration earlier this year.
Empire Cinema, Rubery was one of only a few sites under the brand to remain open following the announcement of the company’s financial struggles.

Omniplex Cinemas currently operates over 270 screens across 38 locations in Ireland. Their location in Rubery is set to open first, with Ipswich and Sutton branches opening on December 8 and cinemas Clydebank and High Wycombe planned for December 10.
