THE LONG-AWAITED launch of the new community radio station for Rubery and South Birmingham took place on Saturday.

South Birmingham Radio is based on Bristol Road South in Rubery, opposite the Morrisons store.

The launch of the station follows months of hard work by volunteers to get the project off the ground.

Station manager John McQuaid said: “I would like to thank everyone who has helped set this up, especially Richard Laundon.

“We want as many people to tune in and contribute the output – it’s the listeners’ station as much as it is ours.”

Sponsor Ron Kimberley, who was also at the launch, said: “I hope the station flourishes.

“It’s fantastic to be involved in such a great community project.

“I hope it puts Rubery and South Birmingham on the map.”
