RSPCA calling for volunteers to help out with gardening or site maintenance

Bromsgrove Editorial 30th Jun, 2022   0

THE RSPCA is putting out a call for animal loving volunteers who can spare some time to help out with gardening or site maintenance at its Birmingham Animal Hospital and Animal Centre.

The RSPCA at Newbrook Farm, Frankley Green, has a variety of volunteering roles up for grabs.

As well as someone with painting, carpentry and general maintenance skills, the charity also wants to hear from keen gardeners who can help with tasks such as weeding, pruning and general maintenance of garden areas and borders.

RSPCA head of volunteering, Brian Reeves said: “We’d love to hear from you if you’re a keen gardener or skilled DIYer with a few hours to spare every week.

“These volunteer roles are vital for keeping the site neat and tidy, and also help free up the time of our staff, who can then focus on looking after the animals in our care. Volunteering here is a great way to keep active, make new friends, and to use your skills to help animals in need.”

These volunteer roles require interaction with the public at times, and supporting the occasional ad hoc events. They will have a willingness to help out and get their hands dirty – and be happy to work outdoors in unpredictable weather.

Gardening volunteers will be helping the animal charity with tasks such as weeding, pruning and general maintenance of garden areas and borders.

Volunteers will also be helping with any new projects such as wildlife garden areas or education areas for young people and preparing the grounds for open days and other events.

The site maintenance volunteer will have some knowledge and experience of DIY and will help with maintenance jobs around the site, tasks will include painting, carpentry and general maintenance of the centre and grounds.
