Rowney Green Players return in comedy mystery

Bromsgrove Editorial 16th Apr, 2023   0

THE ROWNEY Green Players will be back on stage later this month as they perform a murder mystery with more than a splash of comedy.

The century-old drama club will perform Ian Hornby’s ‘Hello…Is There Anybody There’ three times between Thursday and Saturday, April 20 and April 22, at Rowney Green Peace Hall.

The mystery, which will start at 7.30pm each night, centres on the murder of the hapless Vic Tim at Squire Grange.

While everyone tries to discover the murderer before he or she can strike again, others figure out how to get rid of Vic’s body- not least because he has to come back as a policeman in act two.

Smalls, the butler, and Mabel the maid try to assist the inept police but not in time to prevent the producer from being murdered and even the audience is at risk of being poisoned.

Miss Marbles eventually arrives to reveal the culprit behind it all Agatha Christie-style.

The Rowney Green players began performing Shakespearean plays in the early 1920s in their original wooden hut and the Peace Hall was rebuilt in the 1960s and then refurbished in 2010.

Members have been performing at the club ever since, typically entertaining audiences with two plays-a-year, but the outbreak of the pandemic meant they were forced to temporarily close down.

The players made a triumphant return in November when they performed ‘A Comedy Trio’ after over two years away from the stage.

Tickets will cost £7.50, with under-25s getting in for £5.

Call 0121 445 1562 or 07977 254 519 for tickets.
