THE ROTARY Club of North Worcestershire has helped six local charities during the Covid-19 crisis.
Although unable to meet in person, club members have been very busy over the last few weeks meeting virtually and have donated a four-figure sum to several organisations to help them out.
Among them are three local foodbanks – St Basil’s, NewStarts and Droitwich – the groups are run by volunteers who have been putting themselves at risk to ensure people confined to their homes do not go without food.
Another charity helped has been the Worcestershire Young Carers which provides respite for young people caring for older family or younger children – something exceptionally difficult at the best of times, let alone during a lockdown.
Jonathon Cawdron, senior project co -ordinator, said: “Thank you so much for giving this.
“It really will help make a difference to people who are really struggling right now”.
The group also supported the Worcestershire – For the Love of Scrubs – the cash will be used to buy approved material for the group which is making scrubs from their homes using an army of home dressmakers, professional seamstresses and anyone with sewing skills.
They have formal approval from Worcester Acute Hospitals Trust NHS and Worcester Health and Care NHS Trust to make the scrubs.
Another cause to benefit is Chadsgrove School. The cash there has paid for specialist literature by extending the provision of high quality picture books for their early readers.
The funds will also help make some sensory story ‘book bags’ to bring stories to life for their sensory learners.
The group are purchasing new sets of classic children’s literature to support their English curriculum for the most able learners.
