Romsley Range Rover theft prompts police to issue advice

Bromsgrove Editorial 19th Apr, 2023   0

A VEHICLE theft in Romsley has prompted police to issue advice and guidance on preventing car theft.

Hagley and Rubery Police issued the advice after a black Range Rover was stolen from an address on Newton Lane, Romsley on April 18 at 9pm.

The vehicle, partial reg ‘VK22’, was stolen without the keys and has yet to be recovered by police.

The theft prevention advice includes guidance on how to protect your car from ‘relay theft’ if you have key-less entry by keeping your keys well away from your car and even stowing your keys in a signal blocking pouch.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to be aware and vigilant of illegal tow trucking and car-jacking, where criminals steal cars right off the street, even when the driver is inside the vehicle.

The advice extended to taking extra precautionary security measures such as using steering locks or security devices which can fit to gear levers or clutch pedals.

More modern vehicles may even benefit from installation of lockable covers, over what’s known as an engine management diagnostic port, which are often under wheel arches and can make your car vulnerable to theft if not protected.

Simple yet valuable guidance included parking your car responsibly, always checking your car is locked and carrying out full vehicle checks before purchasing a vehicle to ensure it’s history is safe and the vehicle has not previously been stolen or cloned.
