A TEN-HOUR extravaganza will take place in Bromsgrove Town Centre to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The free street party gets under way at 12pm on midday on June 5 with an official opening by Bromsgrove Court Leet and the town’s Royal British Legion chairman.
Live music will take place in the events space on the High Street, outside Argos.
Vintage Class Singers will then take to the stage performing music from the 1950s, followed by Joe James Thomas, Bryan James BB Disco, Karoke and Cabaret hits and others.
Among the bands lining up will be The Reflections, Vaseline – playing 1970s punk classics – Skabucks and Jack Read and The Shaders.
With Catherine Tabberner, Billy Smith, V4 and others, the event will feature music from every era of the last 70 years – including the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
In the evening, the Orchestra of St John Bromsgrove will perform Music From the Movies, Bryan James will return with hits from the musicals and the Orchestra will bring the curtain down with a Last Night of the Proms style set.
One of the organisers Jules Evans said it was gearing up to be the biggest street party Bromsgrove had ever seen.
“We want as many people to bring a chair and a picnic and dress to impress wearing clothes from their favourite decade of The Queen’s reign – there will even be a fashion parade at 4pm.
“Enjoy music through the decades to dance and sing along to.
“Enjoy arts and craft activities with Taylor’d Crafts and bring your flags for waving during the classical proms style finale.”
A total of £5,000 funding has been secured for the celebrations from Bromsgrove District Council and Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP (GBSLEP) Recovery Through Creativity Grants.
That has enabled the organisers to enlist Ian Livie and his team who are currently providing lighting for The Diana Ross Tour as well as other high profile shows.
As part of the backdrop, the trees in the event space will be illuminated, as well as the buildings, reaching up into the sky for the big Proms finale.
