BROMSGROVE District Council has confirmed there will be an official Christmas lights switch-on and a countdown to the magical moment in the High Street on November 22.
The event – from 3pm to 5.30pm – will feature an afternoon of festive fun ahead of the illumination.
There will be live entertainment and roaming performances from local choirs, panto stars, Stourport Brass Band and a visit from Father Christmas himself.
As excitement builds, Bromsgrove District Council Chairman, Coun Sam Evans, will welcome the crowds and start a spectacular laser and music show will initiate the countdown which will be done over loud speakers so everyone – wherever they are on the High Street – can join in with the age out tradition just before 5pm.
In August, the council initially announced there would be no lights switch-on this year, but leader Coun Karen May vowed one would take place and now those details have been revealed.
The colour, energy, magic and celebration will conclude with a show-stopping choir performance, creating a heartwarming finale to capture the true spirit of Christmas in Bromsgrove.
Following the switch on, the Primrose Hospice’s popular Lights of Love ceremony will take place outside Asda at 6pm, giving people the chance to remember lost loved ones.
The poignant event will include a performance from Stourport Brass Band.
Other attractions
Viitors can also enjoy Bromsgrove’s regular market traders alongside Bromsgrove Christmas Market, from 10am to 6pm, featuring all-day entertainment including Sounds of Steel, Steve Kaos, and Vintage Class Singers.
The Christmas Market, in partnership with Friends of St John, will also be open from 9am to 4pm on Friday, November 21.
Local businesses are also getting involved by decorating shopfronts, offering festive promotions, or hosting small-scale activities to help bring the High Street to life.
Coun May said: “We made a promise, and we are delivering on that promise.
“We know how important the Christmas lights switch-on is to our community and, while this year’s event looks a little different, we are proud to be bringing festive spirit back to the High Street in a way everyone can enjoy. Bromsgrove will continue to shine brightly this festive season.”
Deputy Leader, Coun Sue Baxter, said: “The lights switch-on is one of the most loved events in Bromsgrove’s calendar, and I’m thrilled it’s back to bring festive cheer to families, friends and visitors alike.
“This year’s format keeps the fun flowing while making it easier for everyone to enjoy.
“Huge thanks to all the brilliant local businesses, organisations and community groups for getting involved and helping us create an event which will be one to remember.”
