DETAILS have been revealed for ‘RocKing The High Street’ – a free-for-all seven-hour party on Bromsgrove High Street on May 7 for The King’s coronation.

The extravaganza is the brainchild of community champion Jules Evans and has been organised in conjunction with Bromsgrove District Council’s Events Team, town manager Lyndsey Berry, Back Door Productions and the Bromsgrove Regeneration Team.

The team brought the High Street alive last year with the Platinum Jubilee Party which received critical acclaim.

Jules said: “We are thrilled to be working with a bigger team to bring a fun-filled day to the town on May 7.

“This will be local entertainment for local people – we are urging people to ‘bring their own chairs and stay all-day.”

The main stage will be at the top end of the town, near Argos, and the event will be officially opened at 1pm by Town Crier and Court Leet Bellman Kevin Ward.

The North and South Bromsgrove High School Choirs will be first up at 1.10pm, followed by The Bromsgrove Community Choir, conducted by Ruth Henley, at 1.30pm.

Kevin Ward and soprano Catherine Tabberner will bring pomp and ceremony to the day at 1.45pm, performing traditional, well-known anthems for the crowd to wave their Union flags to.

Swing, Rat-Pack, soul and rock artist Bryan James will take to the stage at 2pm then Vintage Class will perform 1940s, 50s and 60s classics at 2.15pm.

Singer-songwriter Erica Jean, spotlighted by BBC Introducing, will sing a mixture of covers and her own material at 3pm and there will be everything from Motown classics to modern hits from Mitzy at 3.30pm.

Paul Martyn will bring funk and hits from artists, such as David Gray, The Kings of Leon and Queen, from 4pm and at 5pm, the Noisy Neighbours Blues Band will take centre stage.

Billy Smith will play an acoustic set at 5.50pm before Vaseline wows the crowd from 6.20pm with punky hits from the 70s and 80s.

Bringing down the curtain will be a celebration of UK music by Mod and Britpop band Jack Read and the Shaders from 7.15pm until 8pm.
