Residents warned over 'home insulation' phone scam after calls made to Bromsgrove residents

Bromsgrove Editorial 11th Feb, 2022   0

BROMSGROVE residents are being warned about a scam where cold callers phone up offering a home insulation survey.

Some people in the town have received the calls which are often fronts for rogue traders looking to con vulnerable consumers.

They have been known to make false claims such as they are ‘working for or on behalf of local authorities’, or that they ‘work with trading standards’.

Worcestershire Trading Standards – which issued the warning – advises residents not to agree to work instigated by a cold call or via a leaflet drop.

They also warn people not to give out personal information and, if they need work undertaking, to get three written quotes from reputable businesses which are members of a recognised trade association.

Coun Karen May, cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, said: “This is a concerning trend and I am grateful to our Trading Standards officers for bringing this to the attention of the public.

“I would advice residents to remain vigilant and to warn vulnerable family, friends and neighbours of the danger with these calls.”

To report this scam or others, call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133.
