A NEWLY built crematorium is hosting a community open day this weekend (August 6).
Waseley Hills Crematorium in Rubery will be open from 10am and 3pm this Saturday.
The open day is an opportunity to visit the crematorium, meet the team working at the site and find out more about the support available to the bereaved.
Site manager Joy Edgington said: “We are very proud of our uniquely-designed facility which blends in to its natural surroundings of Waseley Hills.
“Through this open day, we wanted to give our community an opportunity to meet us and find out more about what we do.
“Death is a subject no one wants to think about as losing a loved one comes with grief and sadness. We would like our community to know about the work that we do and how we can help them to remember a loved one.”
On the day, visitors can also take part in a community art project which aims to create a community tree painting, through a partnership with Creative Arts from Bromsgrove.
When the crematorium opened in March, it announced it was one of the most environmentally-friendly facilities of its kind in the country.
The purpose-built chapel building features a distinctive living green wildflower roof and the development of the crematorium has included the enhancement of existing wildlife habitats as well as the creation of new ones.
Joy added: “We have an ethos of being a good neighbour, not only to the communities we serve, but also to wildlife and the environment, as we seek cleaner and greener ways to operate.
“The invitation to attend our open day is extended to everyone in our community who has a curiosity about the type of work that we do. We look forward to meeting as many people as possible, taking the opportunity to talk about our care, our facilities and our excellent team.”
