A BROMSGROVE resident received a prestigious ‘Community Thank You Award’ on September 30, at the ninth annual West Midlands Police Diamond Awards.

Bryony Lewis received the award in recognition of her bravery and courage when she saw a man stood on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge over the M42, earlier this year.

She left the motorway to find an access point to the bridge and called the police.

She then went on to the bridge to talk to the man and reassure him.

Bryony managed to take hold of him, to prevent him jumping, and together they walked off the bridge.

She kept the man safe in her car until the police arrived.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “Bryony offered friendship to this man in his darkest moment of need and most importantly, she listened. He will never forget that moment of true friendship.”

30-year-old Bryony, an outdoor activities instructor, said: “I’m very proud to have received this award which came from me simply acting on instinct.”

The Black Tie award ceremony took place at The National Motorcycle Museum in Coventry.

BBC Midlands news presenter Joanne Malin compèred the event, with entertainment provided by DJ Mark Tolliss.
