Bromsgrove Editorial 7th Nov, 2024 Updated: 7th Nov, 2024   0

A SPECIAL Remembrance Concert will take place at Bromsgrove’s Artrix at 7.30pm this Saturday, November 9.

The event – the brainchild of the team which brought ‘Bromsgrove Remembers’ – will feature an array of local talent and – on the day before Remembrance Sunday – pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

After an introduction and welcome by Bromsgrove Town Crier Kevin Ward and Royal British Legion (RBL) chairman Jeff Evans, there will be performances by Vintage Class and the recreation of speeches by Sir Winston Churchill and Field Marshall Montgomery from Operation Overlord (the D-Day Landings).

Others taking to the stage will include Chadsgrove Choir, poetry, readings, Theatre Train performing a music and dance piece, 1940s re-enactors Forever Forties and renowned town soprano Catherine Tabberner, along with Stourport Brass and Mr Ward.

Among the music performed will be popular songs from the 1940s and poignant and rousing classical numbers, including Hymn to the Fallen, We’ll Meet Again,

The White Cliffs of Dover, The Dam Busters, Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem and the National Anthem.

And there will be a moving Drum Head Ceremony led by Rev Rayman Kahn (Bromsgrove RBL chaplain, Mr Evans, Mr Ward. That will feature piper Paddy McGowan,  Sir Winston Churchill (played by Derek Herbert) and Field Marshall Montgomery (played by Alan Oliver), along with members of Forever Forties

One of the organisers, Jules Evans, said: “We are delighted to be back with a follow-up to ‘Bromsgrove Remembers’.

“The last one exceeded all expectations to the way it was received – Bromsgrove is such a generous town when it comes to the annual Poppy Appeal and patriotic when it comes to remembering the fallen.

“We hope people will turn out in their numbers again – as they always do.”

Tickets – at £10 each – are available at artrixbromsgrove.co.uk or by calling 01527 361324.
