Redditch and Bromsgrove people given head-to-head challenge to see which town is more active

PEOPLE aged over 50 in Bromsgrove and Redditch are being encouraged to get moving to prove they are the more active town.

Throughout the rest of January and into February, residents across the two districts will go head-to-head in recording their movements.

From seated toe taps and heel raises while watching TV, to walking and cycling – every minute counts.

The ‘Minute Your Moves’ project, organised by Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest, is designed to get people fitter.

At the end of each week the minutes will be collated to see which district is moving the most.

Jo Hughes of Age UK said they knew Coronavirus was having a big impact on people’s activity levels.

“Our recent survey of older people living in North Worcestershire, showed almost 75 per cent of them felt their activity levels had declined since the start of the pandemic.

“Whilst we can’t restart our groups and activities at the moment, we wanted to get 2021 off to a positive start.

“By introducing an element of friendly rivalry, we hope people will be encouraged to get involved and do their minutes for their district.”

There will be a chance to come together, via Zoom, every Friday in January and February to share experiences and take part in group activities.

Visit www.ageuk.org.uk/brwf or call the charity’s team on 01527 574490 to find out more about how to get involved.
