A RALLYING call has been issued for volunteers to help clear Himalayan Balsam from both Lickey Hills Country Park and Cofton Park, writes Zaynab Hamdy.
A total of 14 sessions have been organised throughout June, July and August by the Lickey Hills Society to remove the helmet shaped flowers.
The ongoing task continues each Saturday morning – starting at 10am and finishing around 12pm.
Himalayan Balsam is a fast growing pink plant which reaches up to two metres in height.
It has an explosive seed capsule and scatters seeds over up to seven metres away.
They are being eliminated, which can be done by hand, to prevent further spread.
Anyone wanting to help clear the Himalayan Balsam can meet at the Lickey Hills Visitor Centre at 10am each Saturday.
Participants should wear gloved and appropriate footwear.
Interested parties should call the Lickey Hills Visitor Centre on 0121 445 6036 for more.
