Racism against England players 'completely unacceptable' - Northfield MP's Westminster Diary

Bromsgrove Editorial 17th Jul, 2021   0

IT WAS a heart-breaking result at the end of the Euros for England but we have to be incredibly proud of the England Team.

It’s been a very long time since we’ve been to the finals and it has brought joy and happiness to millions over the past few weeks.

I would like to take a moment to call out the completely unacceptable racist abuse members of the England team have received.

They are national heroes and should not be subjected to racism, just as no one should be.

Turning to the latest news for England – the announcement of unlocking on the July 19 – or Freedom Day as it’s becoming known.

It’s been a very long 15 months since we first went into lockdown at the start of 2020.

We’ve all made huge sacrifices, many lost family members and friends and some are still suffering from the effects of long Covid.

This day will see freedoms restored which we have gone without for far too long – while for a good reason, it’s vital that we get back to normal as a country and live our lives.

We will have to learn to live with Covid-19 just as we have with many other viruses.

So I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has played their part in the heroic vaccine roll-out as without you we would not be having a Freedom Day on the July 19.

It’s each and every person getting vaccinated and the army of people making it possible which means we will get some form of normal back on Monday – so thank you, we all owe you so much.
