PUPILS at Bromsgrove’s St John’s Middle School got to showcase their creative sides when performance poets Spoz and Kurling paid them a visit on Friday.

The talented children came up with their own poems about the environment to raise awareness of climate change – the theme for this year’s National Poetry Day.

After brainstorming ideas, they were split into groups to devise their performances, including lines they say together and solos.

Former Birmingham Poet Laureate Spoz, aka Giovanni Esposito, said: “The pupils have been superb – you can see they’re all buzzing by the work they produced.”

The school’s head of English Karen Devey said: “We’ve been inviting Spoz and other poets into school for a few years now and their visits are absolutely brilliant.

“The children are a bit sceptical at first about getting involved and performing poetry but they’re always so inspired and by the end they are always full of confidence.”
