THE PRIMROSE Hospice Choir has raised £5,000 for the charity it supports in the last five months.

As well as organising their own concerts, the group has also performed for organisations all over north-east Worcestershire.

Members also sang a moving rendition of popular songs at the recent Lantern Walk at Hanbury Hall.

David Burrell, Primrose Hospice CEO, said he was hugely grateful for the choir’s efforts and contribution.

“They are brilliant ambassadors for the organisation, support our events and raise important funds to help sustain the essential services we provide.

“Often they are the icing on the cake for our events – they were certainly that at our Lantern Walk where the setting and ambience was enhanced by their wonderful sound.”

The Primrose Choir was launched in 2000 and now boasts more than 50 members who have raised a significant amount of money over the years.

The cash helps the Primrose provide free care to life-limited people and their families living in north east Worcestershire.

Kay Hadley, the Primrose Choir’s musical director, said: “Many of the choir’s members have joined after losing someone close to cancer and wanted to put something back into the hospice.

“Our two main aims are to enjoy singing and to help fund-raising for the hospice.

“We’re as professional as possible but with heavy emphasis on an enjoyable, sociable evening.”

Most of the funding comes from the choir supporting funerals, successful, well-supported raffles and from four public concerts each year.

Members give their time for free but they have a professional pianist.

Kay added her husband Brian – the choir’s musical arranger and composer – saved the group hundreds of pounds by giving his expertise freely.

The choir’s next performance will be at Coun Brandon Clayton’s civic service at Worcester Cathedral on March 3 and then supporting Stagecoach at St John’s Church, Bromsgrove on Aprill 6.

The next public performances is on April 11 at Parkside in Bromsgrove, with Worcester Ukulele Band and Tardebigge First School.

Tickets, at £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available by calling Pamela Powley on 01527 67383,

Kay Hadley on 01527 546158 or the Primrose Fund-raising Team on 01527 889796.
