Popular Alvechurch pub reopens after major revamp

Bromsgrove Editorial 29th Apr, 2017   0

A POPULAR Alvechurch pub has re-opened its doors following a £210k makeover which created nine jobs.

The Red Lion, on Red Lion Street, closed for nine days while the refurbishments took place before being unveiled to the public earlier this month.

The revamp saw the reception area undergo an uplift to create more space for guests and the front of house team, as well as a redesign of the bar and dining areas.

The pub, which is part of the Vintage Inns group, also welcomed nine new members to the team.

Rebecca Spence, who has been general manager at the Red Lion for more than two years and lives above the pub with her young family, said: “It has always been so important to share the home-from-home feeling with all our guests, and we really feel that with this refurbishment we can re-establish ourselves as the social hub of the local community.

“But that isn’t to say we aren’t looking further afield, with our friendly staff and ambitious chefs, we hope to appeal to all foodies from near and far alike.”

“Following the success of the refurbishment, we’re looking to the future, and we’d encourage anyone who hasn’t seen the new design to pop along and share our new beginning with us.”

Originally occupied by a row of old cottages, the site upon which The Red Lion stands dates back to the 1700s and before the existence of the police force, the building was used as meeting place for landowners to discuss the activities of thieves and trespassers.
