A TOTAL of 20 new and unique Popart style pictures will go on display at the 11th annual art exhibition between Thursday and Saturday, July 20 and 22 at Alvechurch Village Hall.

The paintings have been created by members of Pam McGregor’s art groups who meet in the village hall on Thursdays.

The works are in response to a competition sponsored by Kamal Khan and Spring View Care, owners of Bromsgrove’s Tutnall Hall and Grosvenor House near Alvechurch.

This is the eigth year Kamal has challenged the artists to mimic an existing style of art and this year he chose Popart.

Residents and staff at the two homes selected their favourites from a shortlist of six with the top three being a montage depicting James Bond and Goldfinger, a colourful depiction of David Bowie, and a triple image of Popart creator, Andy Warhol.

These and the other shortlisted paintings will be on permanent display in the care homes after the exhibition.

Pam said: “This year Kamal’s challenge gave the artists the chance to be flamboyant, although it started many conversations about exactly what constitutes ‘Popart’.

“I think visitors may be surprised but impressed with the results.”

There will also be around 100 other new pieces of original art created by members in the past 12 months – many for sale.

The exhibition is available to view from 10am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday and between 10am and 5pm on Saturday.
