Police operation at Frankley Services finds 8 vehicles on M5 had 'serious defects'

AN OPERATION aimed at clamping down on unroadworthy vans, lorries and trucks on the M5 between Quinton and Bromsgrove found eight had serious defects.

Among the issues discovered at Frankley Services were defective tyres and the vehicles being ‘significantly overweight’.

Two vehicles were uninsured and seized and one of the drivers had no licence.

Anther vehicle had an illegal number plate but when pulled over the driver failed a roadside drugs test and was arrested.




A total of 30 vehicles were checked between Junction 3 and 4.


The operation was carried out by West Mercia Police, West Midlands Police Traffic and Central Motorway Police Group, along with other agencies.

These included the DVLA, DVSA, HM Revenue and Customs, the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service and The Equipment Register.

Several vehicles were found to have excessive tints on their front windows which the drivers had to rectify before being allowed to continue their journey
