Police issue anti-snap lock advice after spate of burglaries in Bromsgrove and Rubery

POLICE have issued advice to home owners in Bromsgrove, Rubery and the rest of North Worcestershire after a spate of burglaries in the area.

Offenders have snapped Euro Profile locks to gain access before looking to steal car keys.

West Mercia Police recommend householders replace their locks with three star anti-snap locks to prevent themselves falling victims to burglars.

Sgt Daniel Townsend, from the North Worcestershire Problem Solving Hub, said: “This is at a very low cost compared to damage being caused to your property and the potential loss of your vehicle.

“In the changing of any locks we would recommend if you need any advice regarding lock types or employing a trusted locksmith to always consult the Master locksmiths Association.

“Our preferred specification for a change of any cylinder lock would be a clearly marked three star, anti-snap bump lock.”

Police have also recommended car keys are kept out of sight and away from the letterbox to prevent them from being hooked.

“Always lock your doors and windows where possible when in your property, and also every time you leave the house, even when you’re just out in the garden, remembering to double-lock UPVC doors by lifting the handle and turning the key.”
