A TEENAGE cyclist has died after a crash in Longbridge.

The 13-year-old was critically injured in the collision on Groveley Lane – in between Coombes Lane and Lowhill Lane – at 8.15pm on Friday.

He passed away on Saturday evening and his family are being supported by specialist officers from West Midlands Police.

The family has requested no further details about their son be released and they have requested the chance to grieve in private.

The driver of the car involved stopped and remained at the scene.

He is helping officers with enquiries and has not been arrested.

Police are working to establish exactly what happened and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It is absolutely tragic that this young boy has died, and we doing all we can to find out what happened.

“It’s impossible to fully understand the grief the family must be experiencing. Please respect their request for privacy.

“We have spoken to people who were at the scene but would still like to hear from anyone who has CCTV from around the area on Friday evening, dash cam footage or doorbell images.”

Anyone with information should submit it live chat at west-midlands.police.uk or by emailing [email protected].

Anyone affected by this sad incident can receive help from the road safety charity Brake on 0808 800 0401.

A fund-raising campaign has been launched to contribute towards the teenager’s funeral. Click here to donate.
