THE POLICE and fire service are probing an arson attack which happened in Charford in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze broke out at 1.28am after rubble was set alight in Humphrey Avenue. But it quickly spread to a semi-detached property. Luckily no-one was injured in the blaze but the building sustained damage.

Three fire crews – two from Bromsgrove and one from Redditch – were sent to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

A fire investigation has been launched in a bid to ascertain what happened.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said enquiries were ongoing and officers are remaining open minded as to the cause of the fire.

PC Joann Jinks said: “We are still conducting enquiries in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at that time and may have seen something suspicious to come forward.”

She added police patrols would be stepped up during the coming days to reassure the community.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call 101.
