THERE were plenty of celebrations as Bromsgrove Repair Cafe toasted its first birthday on Saturday at All Saints Church Hall.
The very busy session saw 45 visitors bring 66 repairs (including sharpening).
It added to the 260 repairs the cafe had carried out over the past 12 months – stopping those items going to landfill in the process.
On Saturday, because of demand, a couple of people did not get seen by 4.30pm so they will be returning next time on April 1.
People with electric or electronic items should bring them as early as possible after 2pm when the event starts.
People had to wait but, the organisers say, sometimes the process can take around an hour, although there is always plenty of tea, coffee and home-made cake for them to enjoy until their repair is done.
They are also hoping more people will take along older children in the hope that they will catch the ‘repairing bug’ the volunteers have.
Ros Cooke, from the Repair Cafe, said: “They really enjoy meeting up with fellow repairers.”
And, appealing for more volunteers to bolster the ranks, she added: “If you can offer electrical or eletronic skills and experience please get in touch and apply to join our team.”
Visitor Susan said “I enjoyed an afternoon out at the Repair Cafe with a friend: where we enjoyed a slice of home-made cake and a coffee.
“We took two items each – only one item each was successfully repaired but the repairers were really helpful.”
