CROWDS turned out to the annual Bromsgrove Court Leet Fair Day on Saturday.

The event began with a parade from Housman Hall to the High Street by the Bailiff and the Court Leet in all their robes and regalia.

Shirley Pipe Band played a number of marching classics along the way, including Flower of Scotland.

When they reached the Housman Statue, Town Crier and Court Leet Bellman Town Crier Kevin Ward, introduced Rev Ray Khan who said a prayer before the Bailiff and others carried out the annual assizes.

The practice, dating back hundreds of years, is a tradition where the Court – which formerly had great legal powers – tested the bread, leather, flesh and ale to ensure it was of adequate quality for the people of Bromsgrove.

Alongside the parade and the usual Saturday market, the annual Elizabethan Market was held with many charity groups having stalls and many stallholders wearing historic costume.

Among the groups were Bromsgrove Lions, the Blue Cross, Artrix and others.

The Somers Cup – for the best-dressed stalls and holders – went to Bromsgrove Blood Cancer UK with Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees (BRWR) in second place and Avoncroft Museum in third.
