A COLOURFUL display of poppies, using recycled plastic bottles, went on display in Romsley ahead of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.
The showing was created by Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – aged between six and 14 – from Romsley St Kenelm’s Scout Group.

The youngsters started collecting plastic pop bottles earlier in the year and amassed over 230.
Then, in recent weeks all the youngsters were involved cutting, painting and gluing the bottles to make the bright red flowers.

The poppies were placed on display, with the help of leaders and parents, on both sides of the main road that passes through the village, creating an impressive show.
Lucy Baker, an adult volunteer with the Scout group who helped with the project, said: “The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts worked hard and thoroughly enjoyed making all the poppies.
“The response from community has been wonderful and we’re very proud of what the young people have achieved.”

The Display also includes a fabulous Post Box Topper made by Suzanne Little, the grandmother of two of the Beavers.

Romsley St Kenelm’s Scout Group has more than 90 children and young people, girls and boys, in its ranks.
They enjoy a full programme of weekly meetings, camps and activities.
The group is supported by over 20 volunteer adults and plans to open a Squirrel section – for four and five year-olds – in the next few weeks.
