HUNDREDS of people turned out for this year’s Bromsgrove Carnival on a very hot afternoon.

The mercury was in the 30°Cs – higher than Rio, Barcelona and California – as the parade journeyed from North Bromsgrove High School to Sanders Park.

The parade was led by Bromsgrove Town Crier, Kevin Ward, and samba band Someone at the Door.

Among the lorry floats were schools, including The Orchards, Milfield, Fairfield First and Rigby Hall, along with Libby Mae’s Little Angels, Kirsty’s Little Treasures and others.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebration Days’ and everything was depicted – from Christmas and Easter to birthdays, World Book Day and Chinese New Year.

At the park were stalls from charities, community groups and businesses, Wilson’s Funfair, food and drink, dance displays and a live music stage.

The awards for the best floats went to Libby Mae’s Little Angels for their St Patrick’s Day lorry, while the walking one went to Girlguiding Bromsgrove for their Christmas theme.

The trophies were presented by former X Factor contestant Wagner who praised the Bromsgrove community for its welcome and for coming together to create such a wonderful day.

Charlotte Sharratt from Libby Mae’s Little Angels said: “This is our first win in a long time – we certainly had the luck of the Irish on our side.

“All the hard work paid off and we’d like to say a massive thank you to Libby’s aunty’s Sarah, Riley’s friends from Catshill Middle School and DJ Baxter who provided the live set.”

Charlotte Howell, Girlguiding Bromsgrove’s division commissioner, said: “As soon as we heard the theme we all said: ‘we’ve got to do Christmas.

“We are so pleased to have won – we have rainbows, brownies, guides, rangers and leaders and everyone pulled together.”

Assistant division commissioner, Zoe Hadley-Blight, added: “We want to thank everyone involved.

“A lot of people went into a lot of lofts or on Vinted to get Christmas decorations and costumes – just a few months after putting them away.”

Girlguiding is in desperate need of volunteers and helpers because of the demand. One of its units is in danger of closing.

Anyone who can give a few hours-a-week to be a leader or helpers should visit; girlguiding.org.uk or get in touch through the Girlguiding Bromsgrove Facebook page.
