Patients across Worcestershire reminded about extra GP appointments in evenings and on weekends

Bromsgrove Editorial 30th Jan, 2019   0

PATIENTS across Worcestershire are being reminded that nearly 1,000 extra GP appointments are now available across the county in the evenings and weekends, writes Eve Watson.

The three Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Groups (NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove, NHS South Worcestershire and NHS Wyre Forest) have introduced the national Improved Access Scheme.

This scheme was developed to provide more choice, convenience and increased access to GP and nurse appointments outside of normal working hours.

An appointment may be with a different GP or nurse, and some of these are telephone only.

Lynda Dando, director of primary care for the three Worcestershire groups, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer this service to assist those patients who struggle to access GP or nurse appointments during the day.

“This is a great example of how primary care is evolving across Worcestershire, as we strive to continue to offer the best services possible to our residents.”

Appointments are available to patients between 6.30pm to 8pm on weekdays and at specific times at the weekend, being pre-bookable by contacting their surgery during their opening hours.
