Outrage at 50-home proposal for Hollywood green belt

Bromsgrove Editorial 2nd Jun, 2024   0

AN OUTLINE application to build 50 new homes on green belt land in Hollywood will go before Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee on Tuesday, June 4.

The land, on the south side of, Houndsfield Lane, once housed Fur and Feathers Animal Sanctuary, and is opposite longstanding houses.

Brynley Little has put forward a plan for the homes which will include 40 per cent affordable housing, with a a mixture of three and two bedroom houses.

Wythall Parish Council has called for the application to be refused, claiming the development was inappropriate and did not meet the ‘very special circumstances’ required to build in the green belt.

The parish council also believes there are a number of inaccuracies in the supporting information provided, concerning proximity and type of services and amenities.

And residents are concerned about the development, seconding the concern raised by the parish council.

In the planning document, one resident said: “The site is removed from the southern side of Houndsfield Lane and while land on its northern side is developed further to the west, the land immediately opposite the field is not.

“Whilst land will inevitably have to be removed from the green belt to accommodate the future housing needs of the district it is not right for the planning committee to second guess what land will be made available.”

The application will be presented at Tuesday’s meeting.
