AN AREA outside a Bromsgrove Scout Hut has been revamped as part of Worcestershire County Council’s A38 Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (BREP).

Alun Griffiths (LTD), Worcestershire County Council’s main contractor for the A38 project, has proven that they will always ‘Be Prepared’ to help others by donating £3,500 worth of time and materials to the much-needed community project aimed at helping the scout group thrive.

The county’s contractor helped revamp the area outside the 1st Bromsgrove Otters Scout hut, tackling the overgrown area to provide a much improved, usable space.

Coun Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “It’s brilliant to see one of our contractors teaming up to support the Bromsgrove Scouts.

“We are aware that any construction work can cause some disruption, and this is a great way to say thank you to the community of Bromsgrove and build relationships’.”

Sam Pogson, who set the project up on behalf of Alun Griffiths, said: “We provided a team of operatives to help clear all the overgrown vegetation, taking up the old woven membrane and bark chippings and relaying new surfacing.

“The site has been transformed, creating a presentable and safe environment for the Scouts to carry out their activities on.

“Our commitment is all about giving back to the community and myself and the rest of the team have loved being a part of this project.”

More than 60 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts use the facility for a range of adventure activities, and it is hoped the improvements will allow the long established Scout Group to open its doors for an increased number of local youngsters and generate revenue for the group.

Group Scout Leader, Jim Weaver, added: “The building has been used by the Scouts since the 1930s and the huge improvement to the outside space has given our Scout hut a new lease of life.

“The area is much tidier and gives a fantastic space for the Scouts to spend their time.”
