Our guide to Remembrance Parades in Bromsgrove, Catshill, Rubery, Aston Fields and Wythall

BROMSGROVE will fall silent on Sunday to remember those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Parades and services will take place in the town centre and in villages across the district to pay tribute.

Bromsgrove District Council chairman, Coun Rod Laight, who will be laying a wreath at the town’s war monument, Crown Close, said: “We will never forget the bravery of those who have and who continue to serve our country and laying wreaths and taking time to reflect on this demonstrates our pride and respect.

“I am delighted my colleagues will representing the council at the events across the district and I look forward to seeing residents there too.”




Here are the details for the Remembrance Sunday parades and commemorations –

Bromsgrove

Those taking part in the parade should muster at the top end of the High Street by Argos, ready for the parade to step off at 10.40am. The Parade will journey along the High Street giving an eyes left at the Odd Fellows Memorial, where the Salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, or Deputy, on behalf of the King. The Parade then turns into Church Street, crossing Market Street to Crown Close to the War Memorial Monument. Amphlett Hall will be open for those wanting to watch from inside or use the facilities. The service, led by Rev Ray Khan, the Bromsgrove RBL Chaplain, will take place outside, starting at 10.50am with the Act of Remembrance taking place at 11am. Market Street will be closed from 10.30am to midday.


 

Aston Fields

Wreaths will be laid at 10am at the village’s War Memorial. A Remembrance Service will then take place at 10.30am at St Godwalds Church.

 

Catshill

A service takes place at 10am at the Catshill Working Men’s Club.

The parade then journeys from the club to the War Memorial at the junction of Meadow Road and Stourbridge Road around 10.30am.

A second service starts around 10.45am with the two-minute silence and wreath laying.

There will be closures on Stourbridge Road and Meadow Road, Catshill, between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Refreshments will be available at Catshill Club afterwards.

 

Rubery

The Service of Remembrance, led by Rev Claire Turner from St Chad’s Church, will take place at 10.45am outside the Rubery Memorial Club.

It will be followed by a parade down New Road and, for those wanting to attend, there will be 15 minutes of prayers, hymns and music inside St Chad’s Church.

There will be closures on New Road, Legion Road and Library Way between 10am and 11.45am.

Refreshments will be available then from the Rubery Memorial Club.

 

Wythall

A memorial service will take place at St Mary’s Church at 9.30am. Shawhurst Lane to Paddocks Road War Memorial will be shut between 10.15am and 10.45am when the parade takes place.

At 11am at the War Memorial, there will be a short service and two-minute silence.

The onward journey will walk along Paddocks Road to crossroads of Alcester Road and Houndsfield Lane from approx. 11.15am to 11.45am.
