THE ORCHESTRA of St John’s annual MusicFest brings the curtain down on this year’s Bromsgrove Festival this weekend, writes Olivia Warburton.

Tomorrow (Saturday), music lovers of all ages are in for a treat as Bigger Bite Sized Classics introduces young and old to the joys of classical music during a one-hour journey of amazing music with plenty of opportunities for children to join in along the way.

It starts at 1pm at St John’s Church and will be followed by a free ice-cream and cream tea.

Later in the evening at 7.30pm, the orchestra’s woodwind players along with pianist Ben Firth will play a selection of pieces, including the works of Mozart, Beethoven and Poulenc, for piano and wind.

And on Sunday, July 23, at 7.30pm, the curtain falls on the festival with the Gala concert to showcase the incredible talent this year’s festival had to offer.

The concert will be directed by the renowned conductor Richard Jenkinson.

Tickets are available from £8 to £12 on the orchestra’s website at www.osjbromsgrove.org but can also be purchased on the door for £10 to £14.

Other events happening during this final festival weekend are:

  •  Stitch Day with Avoncroft Young Embroiderers from 10am to 12.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) at Artrix. There is a great chance for both children and adults to have a go at some simple decorative hand-stitching.

  •  Fusion – a street performance with a fusion of street theatre, dance and music takes place from 10am to 1pm tomorrow (Saturday) on Bromsgrove High Street. It will feature professional artists, local choirs and dance companies and will be hosted by BBC Hereford and Worcester’s Tammy Gooding.

  •  An organ recital at All Saint’s church, Bromsgrove by Hannah Gibson, featuring works by Mozart, Pachelbel and Buxheude, will take place at 6pm tomorrow. Tickets can be purchased for £8 on the door.
