AN INCREDIBLE 60 years of entrepreneurialism and development across Bromsgrove district and surrounding areas by Douglas and Malcolm Clark was celebrated last Friday with the opening of the new BW-Sipp Business Centre on Buntsford Drive.

And the Standard, along with Bromsgrove MP and former Chancellor Sajid Javid, council leader Coun Karen May and other dignitaries were among more than 100 guests to toast the diamond occasion.

Also present were Douglas and Malcolm’s friends, family, business representatives, community champions and others and The brothers have been bringing prosperity to the district since the 1960s.

Guests enjoyed live jazz music, a sumptuous retro-style buffet and were able to view a selection of classic cars from the Clark brothers’ private collection.

Bromsgrove Town Crier compered the event with the opening speech made by John Truslove, joint-managing director at commercial property agents John Truslove.

He spoke about the Clark brothers’ life-long business partnership – from humble beginnings mending lawnmowers in Chaddesley Corbett to ‘Clarks’ becoming the largest volume MG dealership in the world, due to its location near the Longbridge manufacturing plant.

The brothers invested in and developed land into high specification business centres and units for a modern work environment where Bromsgrove businesses have thrived.

Mr Javid gave a speech and performed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the Buntsford Business Centre before Doug gave him a guided tour of the classic cars.

He said: “I was delighted to celebrate this special occasion with Douglas and Malcolm.

“I’d like to thank them for the way they have served the community and created job opportunities across the Bromsgrove district.”

Standard editor Tristan Harris said: “It was great to be at the event to celebrate what Douglas and Malcolm have achieved, the prosperity they have brought to Bromsgrove over the years and the jobs they have created for local people.”
