Olympic silver medallist to deliver new Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run

ONE of the great’s of middle distance running is joining forces with the community Bromsgrove to deliver a new running event this summer.

World champion and Olympic silver medal runner, Steve Cram OBE, is joining forces with Worcestershire County Council and Wythall Community Association for the family friendly activity.

The Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run takes place on Sunday, June 23 at Wythall Park (10am) and includes a 5k, 10k and a families on track relay race.

Steve Cram and the Events of the North team will be there on the day seeing runners over the finish line.

He said: “I’m looking forward to being there on Sunday 23rd June.

“With a great running route on traffic-free roads, as well as activities for families and non-runners it should be a great day for Worcestershire.”




Alongside the event, the Wythall Community Association are holding a fun day with food stalls, entertainment and taster sessions of other activities at the park.

Councillor Adam Kent, Worcestershire County Councillor for Wythall said: “It’s a real coup for us to be working with Steve, a world-class sportsman, bringing this innovative and exciting event to Worcestershire.


“This event is for all not just experienced runners, we want to welcome families and residents of all abilities including those who have never run before.”

Public Health has also funded the District Council and local leisure providers to deliver Couch to 5k programmes for local runners to sign up and get ready for the big event.

Councillor Karen May, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, at Worcestershire County Council said: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to work with Steve and add another running event to the county’s calendar.

“Bringing people together to get active not only benefits physical health but helps us meet new people and feel part of our community.

“I’d like to thank our district council colleagues and local leisure providers for their hard work in helping us to offer Couch to 5k programmes.”

Wythall Community Association have chosen the local Primrose Hospice as the official charity partner. Runners who choose to fundraise for them will receive a full fundraising pack.

Bromsgrove District Councillor and chair of the Wythall Community Association, Sue Baxter added: “Wythall Community Association is thrilled to host the run.

“It’s fantastic that proceeds will come back into the Association for future initiatives.”

Runners will receive a bespoke medal designed especially for this event.
