A NORTHFIELD mum whose son has non-verbal autistic severe learning disabilities is organising a weekend of quizzes to raise funds for the service which helps him.
Kari Taylor, who is Leighton’s full-time carer, runs an online quiz business with her two friends.
For his birthday in December she wanted to raise funds for SEND Socials Birmingham which supports the families of people with difficulties like Leighton has.
She said: “Without them we would not be able to participate in recreational activities and we would be even more restricted and isolated to life than we are already posed with because of his disabilities.”
The ‘Zen 3 Quizzing Speedquizzing 4 Autism Fund-raising Weekender’ runs from December 9 to 11 and will raise awareness of autism and hidden disabilities, as well as funds.
Kari began playing online quizzes during lockdown and found it helped her own mental health.
“For parents with children with disabilities it can be a challenge to have any sort of social life and it can be very isolating – my online quizzes have helped me and I have not only made friendships for life but also managed to form a hobby I enjoy out of quiz writing to form our quiz business with my friends.
“We formed Zen 3 Quizzing in the aim to promote autism awareness and also to build on a community so people with restricted social outside access have some form of entertainment.”
The business has speedquizzing hosts from all over the UK taking part in the weekender to hep raise funds and foster some good community spirit.
