RESIDENTS in Charford will be able to cross Austin Road more safely now after a new zebra crossing was installed.

Coun Kyle Daisley, the Worcestershire County Councillor for Bromsgrove South, campaigned for the crossing following numerous concerns raised by the community about dangers to the pedestrians.

He said he understood the fears and described the situation as ‘totally unacceptable’, adding he was delighted the crossing had been completed.

“I’m pleased to have been able to listen to residents concerns and provide a new zebra crossing on Austin Road.

“I continue to work closely with West Mercia Police to encourage enforcement of the 30mph speed limit on Austin Road and hope this new crossing will further support my efforts.”

The new zebra crossing is strategically located to serve a high-traffic area, making it safer for pedestrians, including schoolchildren and the elderly, to cross the road.

The installation of the crossing is part of a broader initiative to improve road safety in Charford, which also includes increased monitoring and enforcement of speed limits.

Residents have welcomed the new crossing, expressing relief and gratitude for the enhanced safety measures.

As well as a safer route for pedestrians, Coun Daisley said it would also remind to drivers to adhere to speed limits and remain vigilant in residential areas.

Local resident and fellow campaigner Emilie Begin added “As a parent of two children who attend Charford First School this new zebra crossing is very much welcomed.

“I have worked on this project with Coun Daisley over the past few years as I have been concerned about road safety for some time.”

Coun Daisley added, “The safety of our community is always my top priority.”

He said the crossing was ‘testament to the power of community advocacy and responsive local governance’.

“I urge all drivers to respect the new crossing and continue to observe the speed limits to ensure the safety of all residents.”

The installation of the zebra crossing on Austin Road is part of an ongoing collaboration between Coun Daisely and West Mercia Police to maintain safe, navigable streets for everyone.
